Artist Statement:
My work is inspired by deep connections to my environment and the many layers and stories a place may hold, whether they be physical, historical or metaphorical. I was fortunate enough to grow up in New York, a region with beautiful landscapes and rich history. My paintings reflect my interest in the natural world and appreciation for the scenery and life surrounding me. I am filled with curiosity about all that came before us and the possibilities of what the future may hold. We are left with pieces of the past that are woven into what is and what will be. Much of my training at Pratt Institute involved traditional methods of painting, such as using the grisaille technique to paint the figure as the old masters did. By incorporating this classic method with contemporary practices, my paintings blend the past and present, representing the human interconnection to our world.
